Pearl Thusi Heading for Nollywood
She’s conquered Hollywood – now, actress Pearl Thusi has set her sights on Nollywood!
Last Saturday, 6 May, Thusi revealed in an Instagram post that she had been cast in the lead role in the Nigerian short film, “Her Perfect Life”, written and directed by Mo Abudu.
Per the post, the film “sheds light on the unseen mental health challenges faced by Onajite Johnson Ibrahim, a woman living a seemingly perfect life in Lagos.”
The accompanying trailer shows Thusi’s character Onajite living the high life with her husband, children and friends, but beneath the glamorous facade is a woman who’s struggling with depression and suicidal thoughts.
Indeed, the purpose of “Her Perfect Life” is to “peel [back] the veil of stigmas attached to mental illness and illuminate in the minds of our people the truth about mental illnesses regardless of where you are in life or where you come from.”
Thusi also serves as an executive producer of the film, which is set to make its premiere at both the Cannes Short Film Corner in France later this month, and at the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival in August.
We can’t wait to see how it plays out!
